Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang

(1933 - 2020)

Venerable Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang was born in 1933 in a place called Ghyongpa, a part of Lithang locality of Kham region in Tibet. He joined Lithang Jamchen Choekhorling, a monastery in Lithang at an early age.  Later, he joined Sera Mey Monastic University in Tibet. In 1959, he followed His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s footsteps to India. He received the degree of Geshe Lharampa (equivalent to a Ph.D degree) in Buddhist philosophy from Sera Mey Monastic University and he is also an honored gradudate from Gyudme Tantric College. In 1996, Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang was appointed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to be the Abbot of Sera Mey Monastic University. In 2002, he completed the construction of the new Sera Mey Prayer Hall. In 2004, Khensur Rinpoche was appointed as the senior most Abbot of the six monasteries of the Gelugpa order. Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jamyang is aslo the founder of Manjushri Buddhist Center in Longueuil, Canada, Manjushri Buddhist Center in Ontario, Canada and Geden Shoeling Buddhist Center in Westminter, California.
